LEGO Castle 70400: Forest Ambush Review.

Well I have the Castle fixation now! Damn it! How can you scale down on LEGO when they release awesome themes such as this! Getting this for under $9.00 doesn't help either. I know a lot of people think this is too “juniorized” and doesn't compare to the previous Castle sets, but I cant help think of my childhood back in the 80's when I look at this theme. I wish I wasn't in my "dark age in the 2000's" because there were so many awesome castle sets that I missed out on. But LEGO have chosen to redo the Castle theme and I am ecstatic that they are doing so. Let's take a look at this little set.

LEGO Castle 70400: Forest Ambush
The set contains 90 pieces and retails for $12.99.
Comes with 4 Minifigures: A Dog, Armored cart... ?? and a Forest Base

Note: All photo's can be clicked on for a larger view.

The front of the box show the Kings Knights under attack by the Dragon Knights, attempting to steal the King riches. If you look to the bottom left hand side you might miss that there is a dog included as well.

The back of the box shows you the play features in this set. The flick firing missile/arrow and a falling tree to ambush the unsuspecting victims.

We have 2 unnumbered bags for this set. Loose in the box are the folded instructions.

All the parts from both bags. Highlights are the tree leaves, apple, the weapons and dog.

This Dragon soldier has a double sided face print, and the torso has printing on both the front an back. This soldier comes with a spiked mace. He has a black Cheek Protection Helmet.

This Dragon soldier has a double sided face print, and the torso has a different printing on both the front an back. He come with an axe and a Dragon shield. He has a Black Helmet with Neck Protector

This King's Knight with sword. He comes with a single side face print, printed front and back King's Breastplate torso. He has a Metallic Silver Helmet with Neck Protector

This King's Knight and spear with scale mail torso print both front and back. Single sided face print. He has a Metallic Silver Helmet with Broad Brim.

A close up of the Medium Dark Flesh Dog.

A step by step build of the so called Armored cart... Its a simple cart... Minus the Armored, it sill does the job to carry the King's gold.

A step by step of the forest base and ambush point.

A Look at the falling tree in action.

Not many spares  in this set I have already used the spare axe to make a double axe.

A few photo's of the complete build.

This is a great add on set to complement the other sets in the theme. It is the perfect set to army build with, getting 4 Minifigs for under $10 when on sale even at $12 it's still fantastic! The play features for it work well and you cant complain about getting tree leaves and log profile bricks. I will buy this 10 times over no problem, if the wife approves which I'm sure she will considering we pay $5 each for a collectible Minifig. Regardless this has fantastic value across the board.

Thanks again for reading and I hope you enjoyed the review!

As always and if you want too, let us know in the comments below, what you think of the set. I would love to hear others opinions on it.

Until next time this is Tan Tile... ready for the raid in the next review.
