LEGO Super Heroes 76013 Batman: The Joker Steam Roller Review.

I would like to welcome you back as we take a look at the 4th and final review in the latest DC Super Heroes Batman theme! Today we look at the biggest set in the wave: 76013: "Batman The Joker Steam Roller". What a great way to finish off a fantastic series. Let's have a closer look at The Joker's Steam Roller, Batman's all-new Batwing and the awesome minifigures that are included in the set.

The front of the box shows our favorite Bat Family as they swing into action to stop  The Joker and his henchman from destroying everything in Gotham City with their Joker inspired steam roller.

On the back of the box we see some of the features that are included in the set. We have a pivoting front end for the steam roller and two laughing gas bombs. The Batwing has four flick missiles and attack-mode sweeping wings to capture the bad guys in action.

When we open the box we find five bags inside. Four numbered bags with all the parts and one unnumbered bag for the large wheels. Also included are two instruction manuals, a comic and a sticker sheet.

Here we have a close up of the sticker sheet. There are only 3 to apply. One for the Batwing and two for The Joker's flag gun.

Here we have the contents of bag 1. We will build three of the five minifigures from the contents of this bag.
Two parts stood out for me here: the new Red Curved 4 x 1 Inverted Slope and the Dark Purple Fedora hat. I have been dying to get the hat in this colour. I missed out on getting the 5984: Lunar Limo when it was available in 2010 as I had no interest in the set, plus I had no Joker back then to worry about getting it.

Here is a close up of the new Red Curved 4 x 1 Inverted Slope. They have been out since 2013 but I have yet to open my 60026: Town Square and I don't own set 70010: The Lion CHI Temple where they first showed up last year.

Batman is the same as set 76011 Batman: Man-Bat Attack.
He has printing on the front and back of his torso. His face is printed on both sides and his cowl is the new Type 2 version.

This is where the fun begins because we start to get some new minifigures. The Joker has all new printing on him. From his double sided torso print to his single sided face print. Both are new versions and exclusive to this set. This is where you apply two of the stickers for the Joker's flag gun.

The Jokers "Goon"... I'd rather call him a henchman, is also exclusive to this set. He has a double sided torso (a vest) print with the words: "The Joker Destruction" printed on the back, and he has an angry single sided face print. The henchman has a somewhat uncommon Yellow construction hat that's only available in three other sets.

Let's now take a look at the step-by-step build of the first half of the steam roller.

We now move on to bag 2 to complete the steam roller build. Its the first time that we see the Wagon Wheel piece used in Dark Purple. The Dark Purple ring umbrella piece is only in two other sets: the Friends 3930: Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery and one in the LEGO Games 3852: Sunblock. The Joker Bomb pieces are only in one other set: the 6863: Batwing Battle Over Gotham City.

Here we have the contents of bag 3. We will build the last two minfigures in this set and start the frame work for the new Batwing.

Here we have the new Robin Minifigure aka Damian Wayne. Robin has a fantastic new torso that is printed on both sides. He has a double sided face print too. I really love this version and I want to get another to swap the black arms and legs with green.

Another all new minifigure is this Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon. Batgirl has an all new headgear piece with stylized flowing red hair. The piece is made from hard ABS plastic just like Batman's Cowl. She has a double sided torso print and two facial expressions. There is not a lot of room between her cowl/hair and the cape; as a result it squishes it down.

These are the spares we get for this set... Nice! Gotta love some extra Batarangs!!

Overall I really enjoyed building this set. We get four out of five all new and exclusive minifigures. Each one of them has lovely looking print and it seems LEGO just keep getting better with each new minifig they produce.
There are some really fun play features including Joker's laughing gas flick bombs and the four flick missiles on the Batwing. The attack-mode sweeping wings felt a bit awkward and a little forced, but to prove I know nothing, my son loves smacking the bad guys with this feature. 
The steam roller is really smooth when you push it around and when it's on a hard surface it sounds as if the front wheels are actually vibrating like a real steam roller. It's a really great effect!
Some great colour choices have been chosen for this set. Both vehicles represent each of the owners perfectly.
The Batwing will always be cool no matter how ugly the front end on this version looks. It's all about the swoosh-ability factor... isn't it? :-)

LEGO Super Heroes 76012 Batman: The Riddler Chase Review.

Welcome back as we go into our 3rd review in the DC Super Heroes Batman theme! Today we are going to look at set number 76012: "Batman The Riddler Chase". I think the only thing everyone will be wanting to chase in this set is the new Flash Minifigure!
Lets get straight into the review!

Set Name: Batman: The Riddler Chase.

Featuring: Batman's Batmobile and Riddler's Dragster.

Here is the front of the box... Showing the new kick ass looking Batmobile chasing down The Riddler in his slick green dragster side by side with The Flash not too far behind. Better watch your step Flash!

The story is that The Riddler has robbed a Gotham City bank and it's up to our heroes to stop him and return the $100 bills y'all. Looks like Batman has been practicing his Batarang skills...  A real "first try" moment! But just in-case, Flash is not too far away as back-up.

Once we open the box we find 3 numbered bags, 2 instruction booklets, a sticker sheet and the same comic that was in 76011 Batman: Man-Bat Attack. You can view my gif version HERE.

Here is a close up of the sticker sheet: two for The Riddler's dragster and one for the new Batmobile.

Bag 1 will build The Riddler, The Flash and the Dragster. Sounds like a great title for a song...
We get some 1 x 2 Green curve slopes which are a a new piece for me.

The Flash (AKA Barry Allen) is an all new Minifigure only available in this set. Fans have waited a long time to get him. The Flash comes with a double sided torso print. The details on the torso are extremely sharp. He also has a double sided face print, a simple smirk and another one of anger. The new helmet/mask piece is made of a soft rubber and sits very firmly on his head . I hope that one day LEGO will  do one for Captain America... We now know that he wont have one in the new Marvel 2014 wave :-(

The Riddler (AKA Edward Nygma) is also another new and exclusive Minifigure to this set. He was previously only available in the overly priced 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape set that was exclusive to Toys R Us. In this version he has a green bowler hat (In 6857 it was Light Bluish Gray) with a purple question mark. He has a new double sided torso print of a zipper jacket and a scarf. He also has this Two-Face feel to him, wearing Dark Green on one side and regular Green on the other. At the time of writing this, the Pearl Gold crowbar is its first appearance in this colour and is only available in this set.

Here it is complete with Minifigure. It's a great little build and I was totally surprised at how much I like it. I didn't think I would but it does have some nice details to it.

I thought I would  include this pic to show you how the little "bomb" works. I tested it out after seeing this image and I was completely surprised by how much force this thing had as it took off. It really could do some damage if it had of bounced the wrong way and got someone in the eye. Other than that it is a very cool feature and works effectively! 

Bag 2 will start the build of the new Batmobile which is based on the new but now cancelled (?) CG Beware the Batman TV series. We also build the Batman minifig that's based from the same show.

Here is the new version of the Batsuit. He has printing on both sides of his torso and face. I have only seen one episode of the TV show and it was jarring to watch the new style that they were going for. This new LEGO version of the suit has me wanting to go back and give it another chance. It doesn't show from the photos but the belt is printed in a shiny gold which makes this torso really pop!  This Batman is also exclusive, just like the other two Minifigs that we have seen in this set.

Here is the step-by-step building progress of bag 2. Interesting thing I must point out here is that the Trans Orange windscreen is detachable; no hinge type setup for the cockpit like they have done in the past. It must be completely removed from the vehicle to add a minifig into the cockpit.

Bag 3 will complete the new Batmobile. There are a couple of pieces that are new to me here and they are the two Dark Gray "Technic Axle Pin 3 long"  in the bottom right hand corner of this photo. Those Pearl Gold rims are just too damn sexy! They are also available in some Chima and Ninjago sets. We don't own any of them so these are new for us too.

The final step-by-step build will finish off the Batmobile. I like this new version of the Bat symbol on the front of the cockpit. It has a real retro feel to it.
The tail end of the Batmobile is nicely detailed and gives you a great impression that this is where the power and grunt comes from. It has 2 flick fire missiles underneath that fire when pushed from the rear. This completes the build.

This was a really fun build. Having 3 all new Minifigures added to the excitement. We get 2 great looking vehicles that have some really cool features and this adds extra play value for any kid or adult alike so it does not disappoint. I only wish Flash had some yellow printing on his legs just like the Christo custom that's been seen on the net.
If you are after a cool new Batman with a Batmobile that has a fresh new look,  then stop right here and pick this set up.
Even if you're looking at getting this set just for the Minifigures, I say do not hesitate. It still has some really useful parts that can be used elsewhere for a MOC. 
If you can wait for a good percentage off sale, you have stronger will power than me :-D
I just couldn't wait and I paid $45 at Big W, rather than wait for a 20% off sale and saving that extra $5 off. Plus the great savings we got on all of the City sets from the Target 20% off and buy 2 get 1 free stacked-on top. I justified picking them up now and I don't regret it one bit.
Now I just need to go wrestle this set out of my sons hands. Jaspa is loving this new Batmobile. He can drive it anywhere with those big wheels, it's the perfect couch explorer.

LEGO Super Heroes 76011 Batman: Man-Bat Attack Review.

Continuing with our review of the DC Universe Super Heroes set Reviews, today we are going take a look at  76011 Batman: Man-Bat Attack. The main reason for picking this set up was for the Nightwing Minifigure. 
Lets have a look at the set details and then move on to the review.

Featuring: Batman's Batcopter and Nightwing's Glider.

The front of the box shows Man-Bat unleashing dynamite over Gotham City while Batman, in his Batcopter and Nightwing on his glider as they take control over the situation and tyr to stop Man-Bat from hurting the innocents down below. It has been a while since we had a Batcopter released, the last one was in 2007 with 7786 The Chase for Scarecrow.

The Back of the box shows you the features of the Batcopter. Including opening cockpit, rotating blades, flick fire missiles and a working winch with a hook.

When we open the box we find 2 numbered bags, an instruction book, sticker sheet and a comic.

Here is a close up of the sticker sheet. There are 2 stickers to apply in total.

I did a gif image so you can view all the comic pages. They run for 10 sec per page.

Bag 1 and it contents. This will build 2 Minifigures and the main body of the Batcopter.

Batman has printing on the front and back of both his torso and head. If you have any Batman set you most likely have this one, only difference would be his Type 2 Cowl. With the new The LEGO Movie coming out and co-staring this guy, it's the cheapest way for you to get this Batman.

Man-Bat has front and back printing on both his head piece and his torso. He is using the Series 8 Collectable Minifigures Vampire Bat mold, but with different printing and color. Man Bat came in his own little baggy.

Here we have a quick step by step build of the Batcopter body. The cockpit is very spacious to allow for Batman and his cape.

Bag 2 has a few bits and pieces. This will complete the rest of the Batcopter and also build Nightwing and his glider.

This guy here is the main reason I got the set. I missed out on the original Batman series in the mid 2000's while I was in my dark age, and I was just itching to get this minifig. Nightwing aka Dick Grayson aka Robin Has double sided printing on his face and torso. I love his red and black new 52 design.

The Batcopter's tail and two rotor blades are now completed. The cockpit is roomy inside to allow for Batman's cape but because of his Cowl he still needs to lay back for the windshield to close.

A step by step build of Nightwings glider. I really like the sticker print design. It really gives the glider some character.

Here it is with Nightwing in position. The glider will not stand on its own. I had to use my own clear head piece to get it to stand. Even if you take off the trans orange cones, the fin piece wont allow for it to stand upright. So it will always be in a laying down position. This completes the set. It felt Strange to build this last, we normally do these types of things first.

The spares for this set. I had to go through my instructions to see if I had left off a 1x1 trans yellow plate. I expected 1 but not 2. It is an extra on top of an extra :-)

Couldn't resist.

Overall this was a neat set. The Helicopter has a nice slick design and looks heaps better then the original 7786 model from 2007. But what this set lacks, is any purpose that the 2007 set had. It seems like overkill to have a Batcopter, Nightwing and glider to battle a stand alone Minifigure with just 2 sticks of dynamite. 
I have always had a soft spot for this version of the Batman Minifigure and with The Lego Movie coming out soon I'm happy I wont need to chase one down for my Son. Batman is not going to be in any of the Movie licensed sets, if you don't have him yet it's best to get this set. Nightwing is just Awesome! Great printing all round. Man-Bat is nice but with his arms the way they are you can't do a lot with it.
It was a nice touch to add the wing piece as the Batcopters tail. It almost gives it that retro feel to it. I know the support beam helped to give it that look.
I enjoyed the build and felt like it would have been a very quick build if I didn't need to take photos for this review. There are no special build techniques involved that are complicated and any child could sit there and build this set with no difficulty what so ever.
It's a must get set if you need Nightwing in your collection. The Batcopter and glider are fun to swoosh around the house, so you and your child wont be too bored playing around with this set. I have to go dig out our Joker copter so my Son can chase me around the house. :-D
